Mahalo signs

Local campaigning in Hawaii seems to be a competition about whose supporters could be the friendliest. People with candidate signs would line streets, waving and smiling, giving the shaka (thumb and pinky out, other fingers down).

But then the really remarkable thing - the day after the election, supporters of the winning candidates were out on the streets with signs again, only this time with big MAHALO (thank you) stickers across them.

This is one of those things that reminds me why Hawaii is so special and what the aloha spirit is. Have you ever seen thank you signs like that anywhere else? I haven't.
